Greenock Wanderers Rugby Football Club would like to share the very sad news that today we have lost one of our most colourful and well loved members.

Graham “Jinky” Johnstone has sadly passed away, having fought against cancer so bravely over the last 3 years.

Jinky joined the club in 1978, having played rugby at Greenock High School. He started his career playing for the 5 th XV but his talent and strengths were quickly recognised and he progressed quickly over the next few years and established himself as a 1st XV regular from season 1982/83 onwards. Jinky played in the 1st XV for many seasons until injury and work commitments resulted in him stepping back, although he did enjoy an old crocks game whenever the opportunity presented itself.

Jinky played rugby like he lived life . He gave it his all and had a laugh along the way. He was a formidable prop forward and someone who would never shy away from doing what was needed. He rarely took a backward step, and he worked hard at building his strength and power so that it could help him be a better player . Rarely ,if ever ,did Jinky play a game and not enjoy a laugh and a joke with his teammates. Jinky was fun to be around with a wicked sense of humour, and he was a fantastic storyteller with the gift of making people laugh.
