Greenock Wanderers celebrated their connection to Scotland rugby stars Sione and Mosese Tuipulotu, alongside their Greenock-born grandmother Jacqueline Thomson, in a special presentation of honorary life memberships. The event took place following Scotland’s thrilling victory over Australia last weekend.
The Tuipulotu brothers, who have made an impressive impact on Scottish rugby, joined their grandmother Jacqueline, originally from Greenock, to accept the honour from the club’s Vice President of Finance, Tony Barrie. The meeting was the culmination of efforts by the club to recognise the family’s unique connection to Greenock.
Tony Barrie explained, “The club got in contact with the SRU in the hope of arranging a chance to see Sione, Mosese, and Jacqueline to present them with their memberships. I was fortunate enough to be at the game against Australia and to get permission to briefly meet with both Sione and Jacqueline after the game.”
He continued, “It was a great chance to let it be known how proud we are to have them associated with the club. Jacqueline’s roots in Greenock have created a special link, and we deeply admire the incredible impact both Sione and Mosese have had on Scottish Rugby.”
Jacqueline expressed her delight at being honoured by Greenock Wanderers. Jacqueline, a Greenock native, was particularly touched by the recognition from her hometown club.
The club is now looking to build on this newfound connection with the Tuipulotu family. There are hopes of strengthening ties in the future and welcoming Sione, Mosese, and Jacqueline to Fort Matilda, the home of Greenock Wanderers.
This presentation marks the beginning of an exciting relationship between Greenock Wanderers and the Tuipulotu family, celebrating their achievements and highlighting the pride Jacqueline’s Greenock roots bring to the club.
