1st XV v Hamilton, Sat 21st September

Wanderers travelled to Hamilton with high hopes of a victory the home side having been relegated last year without a win all season. A massive penalty count and injuries to two key players McGroarty and Knapton one at the pre match warm up and the other after 4 minutes into the game scuppered Wanderers aspirations for an away win. Both sides cancelled each other out in the first 15 minutes with some ferocious tackling from both sides. It was Wanderers who were first on the scoreboard with a penalty from McDaid 3 - 0. In the 15th minute a penalty for the home side inside Wanderers 22 in front of the posts was missed. Another penalty by McDaid increased Wanderers lead 6 - 0. Shortly after the home side scored a well worked try by for their winger to score in the corner 6 - 5. Stone had come on to replace Knapton and was yellow carded for a deliberate knock on. The home side took advantage of the visitors being a man down and again through their backs scored again 6 - 10. A series of penalties to the home side allowed them to secure a lineout in Wanderers 22 leading to a further try 6 - 15. The match was swinging towards the home team but Wanderers did manage a try just on half time by Knapton 13 - 15. Wanderers made changes at half time Love coming on for Hoodless in the forwards with Knox replacing McDougal at scrum half. The home side were playing with confidence and territorial advantage scoring two quick tries in the first ten minutes to lead 13 - 27. Wanderers were paying a high price for the penalties they were giving the opposition allowing them to keep on top of any sorties Wanderers made. The home side added to their tally with a further try this time through their forwards after a rolling maul from a lineout 13 - 34. Wanderers finally got some territory and scored two late tries from Robb and Stone making the final score 23 - 34. Wanderers had some passages of good play with some individual contributions but they have a lot to work on this week before their home game against high flyers Ardrossan.
